It’s likely that vines have been grown in the area since Roman times. As well as the major Roman settlement of Aquae Sulis at Bath, a Roman villa was recently excavated underneath the playing fields of Bradford on Avon’s secondary school, just a mile from the vineyard. The beautiful mosaic featured on our logo was discovered just as the vines were being planted.
Today, English wine is enjoying a renaissance, with dramatic improvements in quality and expertise, success in international competitions and a doubling of the area planted over the past five years. There are now over 400 vineyards in England and Wales, most of them still less than 2 hectares (5 acres).
